UK taxpayers wishing to give by gift aid to Puerto Banus Christian Center can do so via Stewardship (www.stewardship.org.uk). Stewardship is registered as a UK charity and is able to claim tax relief at the basic rate immediately on the donation being made, which grosses up the contribution by 25% (less a small deduction for Stewardship’s admin costs). Anyone paying income tax at higher than basic rate, is able to reclaim the excess over basic rate from HMRC by declaring their gift aid payments through their annual tax return.
Example 1 - 20% Basic Rate taxpayer (2017/2018 tax rates)
Net Donation by Giver £1,000
Gift Aid reclaimed by Stewardship £ 250
Total available for distribution by Stewardship = £1,250 (less small deduction for admin costs)
Example 2 - Higher rate Taxpayers
As per Example 1 with the added bonus of being able to make a personal reclaim of the tax paid above basic rate via their annual tax return.
There are various methods of opening a giving account online with Stewardship, which will reclaim the tax paid on the gift. The giver can then nominate Puerto Banus Christian Center from Stewardship's list of approved recipients. Gifts can be one-off or regular. To pay by gift aid it is important that the contributor pays enough UK tax in any given year to cover the gift aid being reclaimed.
